However, the law is not specific about how one should demonstrate their &#8220;Jewishness&#8221; or Jewish heritage. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.il\/en\/departments\/ministry_of_interior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Israeli Ministry of Interior<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> requires proof of one\u2019s Jewish heritage through both religious and civil documents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-container\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aM9Z6POPevQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>One of a variety of religious documents will suffice, although the more you have, the better. These documents can include a Jewish marriage certificate (ketubah), bar or bat mitzvah certificate, parents\u2019 or grandparents\u2019 proof of burial in a Jewish cemetery, membership in a synagogue, and more. <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one of the mandatory documents is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/script_transfer_new.mowfns.ap-southeast-2.wpstaqhosting.com\/en\/proof-of-judaism-recognized-rabbis-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">letter from a rabbi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> indicating that they know you or your family and can verify your Jewishness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The civil documents must prove you are who you say you are. This includes a passport, birth certificate, and any other documentation indicating your connection to a Jewish parent or grandparent. It can help to have a parent\u2019s or grandparent\u2019s birth certificate as well. Another civil document required is a certification that you do not have a criminal background. This document can be obtained from the police department in your state or town of residence. However, they must be <a href=\"https:\/\/script_transfer_new.mowfns.ap-southeast-2.wpstaqhosting.com\/en\/apostille\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">authenticated by an apostille<\/a>. This is similar to a notary public, but an internationally recognized one.
